George Bernard Hanson was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota, on July 2, 1895, the youngest of the eight children of Ole and Bertha Hanson. He attended school and spent all of his life in the local community with the exception of fourteen months spent during WWI in the service of his country. George worked as a mechanic for Rodness and Appelwick at the Motor Inn Garage for many years before entering the same work for the Minnesota Highway Department. His first two years with the department were spent at Granite Falls with the latter 23 years at Marshall. He always made Clarkfield his home, commuting daily to his work. On June 30, 1921, he was united in marriage to Alma Erickson of Boyd. This union was blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters, namely, Marcelle (Mrs. Allen Okerman) of Minneapolis, Betty (Mrs. Clyde Clark) of Seattle, Washington, Glenn of Granite Falls, Alden of Clarkfield, George A. Hanson of Willmar and Lois (Mrs. Charles Waller) of Minneapolis. George passed away February 19, 1959, at the Veteran's Hospital in Minneapolis. Deceased was baptized and confirmed in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church of which he was a lifelong member. He was also a member of the J. Ben Johnson American Legion Post. He reached the age of 63 years, seven months and seventeen days. Surviving are his wife, six children, ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Severts of Middle River, Minnesota, and one brother, Severin, of Clarkfield. IN MEMORY OF GEORGE B.
