Gea Gunlogson was born March 12, 1874, in Iceland, the daughter of S.S. and Steinum Hofteig. She immigrated along with her family of seven brothers and sisters, to America when she was only four years old. She grew up in Westerheim Township, Lyon County, Minnesota, and belonged to the Westerheim Lutheran Church and later to St. Paul's Church in Minneota when the two congregations merged. On May 27, 1893, she was united in marriage to John Gunlogson who preceded her in death in January of 1942. All her married life was spent in Swede Prairie Township where the couple farmed. She passed away at the Clarkfield Hospital on Thursday, October 11, 1962, at the age of 88 years. She will be missed by her five children: William, Steven and John of Clarkfield, Nina (Mrs. Carl Christensen) of Hanley Falls, and Alice, who is an army nurse stationed in Hawaii; her 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
