Gary Eugene Olson was born on December 21, 1954, at the Clarkfield Hospital, to Roger and Coleen (McCoy) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. He graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1972 and Willmar Vo-Tech in 1974. On May 28, 1976, he married Janet Diederich. He was employed as a mechanic and farmed. He married Shelly Berthelsen on September 16, 1995. He was active in his community and church. He taught Sunday School and was a member of the church council. He also coached the Women's softball team and was a member of the Men's Softball League and Over 35 League. He passed away on April 18, 1998 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital at the age of 43. He is survived by his wife, Shelly; parents, Roger and Coleen of Wood Lake; children, Becky (Brian) Ruhl of Alexandria, Christi, Chad and Chantel of Wood Lake; and sister, Cindy Zwack. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jacob and Esther Olson and Orph and Era McCoy. Blessed be his memory.
