Galen Elroy Redetzke was born March 16, 1915 in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to parents Arthur A. and Amanda M. (Stevens) Redetzke. He was baptized July 18, 1915 by his uncle, Rev. Richard Vordele and was later confirmed at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church of Hanley Falls. Galen graduated form Hanley Falls High School. He married Ardell M. (Cole) on September 15, 1940 at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two children: Karen and Keith. Galen and Ardell farmed near Hanley Falls until 1978, when they moved into Hanley Falls. He moved to the Granite Manor in December of 1996. Galen loved history, reading and traveling. He was very active in serving his church and his community. He was an active lifetime member of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, serving as the Congregational Chairman, treasurer, and council member. He also served as Chairman of the Yellow Medicine Historical Society for 15 years. He was instrumental in establishing the 'Yellow Medicine County Agricultural and Transportation Museum'. He was its Curator for 10 years. Galen also served on the Hanley Falls Elevator Board for 17 years. Galen passed away on Friday evening, August 7, 1998 at the Granite Falls Hospital at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 23 days. He is survived by his wife Ardell, of Granite Falls, and his daughter, Karen (and Paul) Olberg of Willmar, MN and son, Keith Redetzke of El Paso, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren: Ann (and Luis) Millan, Daniel (and Katie) Olberg, and Kari (and Brian) Ingemann and great-grandchildren: Michael and Andrew Millan. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Winton Redetzke. Blessed be his memory.
