Meyer
June 14, 1946 – May 18, 1973
Galen Robert Meyer was born at the Montevideo Hospital, June 14, 1946, to parents Eugene and Doris (Ernst) Meyer. He was baptized by Rev. J.E.H. Akre, confirmed by Rev. E.T. Fyrand, and was a member of the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. He attended school at Clarkfield, graduating with the class of 1966, and later attended Canby Area Vo-Tech where he graduated in 1967 as a welder. Enlisting in the U. S. Navy August 29, 1967, he was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station and later served on the Battleship New Jersey, serving a year in the Viet Nam area. Galen received the National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal with two bronze stars, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal with Device, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. He was separated from the Navy August 28, 1969. After his return home he worked as a welder at Rodgers Hydraulic, Tibbens at Clara City and was presently working with Palm's Industry at Litchfield where he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles. The unexpected death of Galen occurred as the result of an auto-truck accident on Friday morning, May 18, 1973. north of Litchfield, Minnesota. Patience and Kindness to every living thing was part of his life to the end. Galen leaves to mourn his passing, his parents; two brothers: Derrald and Norman, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one sister, Kathleen, now of Granite Falls, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law; two nieces and three nephews; two grandmothers: Mrs. Pearl Ernst of Granite Falls, and Mrs. Olga Meyer of Wolsey, South Dakota; his girl friend, Sandra Harvey of Minneapolis; several aunts and uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.
