Obituary

Gail Irene (Meininger) Werring was born July 28, 1914, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Hiram C. and Inez (Jertson) Meininger. She was baptized October 25, 1914. Gail graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1932 as class Valedictorian. She continued her education at Hamline University, graduating in 1936 with a degree in Economics. She taught high school in Clara City and Appleton. She was then off to California where she worked at the Coburn Studio--a varied and interesting job including a bit of modeling. On August 2, 1942, Gail and Capt. Leigh H. Werring were married in Georgia, and after his tour of duty in the Army, he had planned to finish Law School. After his sudden and tragic death in 1945, Gail left Texas and after a short while plunged into a brand new career. She worked in Special Services Department of the Army--in Service Club work recreation and entertainment for G.I.'s at Ft. Riley, Kansas. It was absorbing, colorful and gratifying and was her very favorite career. After her father's death, she returned to Clarkfield where she was needed to care for her mother. They relocated to Montevideo where Gail worked at Brookside Manor for 18 years. Gail lived life well. She was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed traveling. Gail never missed an opportunity to welcome, befriend and encourage others. Once you knew her, you had a friend for life. She passed away Wednesday evening, February 2, 2011, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 96 years, 6 months and 5 days. Gail was preceded in death by her parents Hiram and Inez Meininger and her husband Leigh H. Werring. Survivors include cousins: Renee (Walter) Arbanas, Wanda Whiting and Earl DeMersseman; sister- in-law Betty (John) Brown; and numerous children of Gail's cousins. She is also survived by her friend and caregiver Jean Lynner; and Clarkfield family Virginia Wilson and Dave Schmitt and families. She will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to know her.
