Frieda Elise Ellinghausen was born February 20, 1910 in Doehlen, Germany to Herman and Dorothea Ellinghausen. Lizzy, as she was known, was called to rest June 1, 1996 after heart complications. Lizzy married Gustav Kuhlmann July 10, 1931 when Gustav returned to Germany to find a wife. To this union three children were born: Robert, Dennis, and Louise. After coming to the United States, Gustav and Lizzie farmed near Boyd until he retired. Gustav passed away in November of 1988. Lizzy remained on the farm until 1991 when she moved to Montevideo. She resided there until she moved to the Clarkfield Care Center in February of 1996. While on the farm, Lizzy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. After she moved to Montevideo, she became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She also was a member of the Boyd Senior Citizens. Lizzy passed away peacefully on Saturday morning at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 13 days. She is survived by her children Robert (and wife Shirley) of Boyd: Dennis (and wife Karen) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Louise (and husband David) Busse of Duluth. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Frieda Kuhlmann of Montevideo and one nephew, Roger Kuhlmann, also of Montevideo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gustav; and one sister and brother-in-law Bernard Kuhlmann. Lizzy had returned to her homeland five times. The last time in 1993 was with her daughter; so in Germany, too, live friends and family. Blessed be her memory. Lizzy was a caring, fun, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and friend. She will be missed.
