Freida Laurina Schultz was born on November 8, 1921, in Lucas Township near Wood Lake, Minnesota, to Minnie Krueger and Leopold Schultz. Freida was baptized on May 28, 1933. She was confirmed on May 22, 1938, at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wood Lake, Minnesota. She attended school in Cottonwood and Dudley, Minnesota, graduating from the later. On August 9, 1943, she married Orland A. Hanson, with whom she had eight children. Orland and Freida lived for much of their lives, together on a farm west of Boyd, farming for over 25 years. In 1975, they moved into the village of Boyd. Besides being a thoroughly capable homemaker, Freida worked for 23 years with the Dawson-Boyd School District, retiring in 1989. Freida passed away on January 28, 1992, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota, after a long bout with cancer. Known far and wide for her cooking, Freida will also be remembered for the many baby blankets she made, clothes she made and mended, and clippings from plants, now flourishing on their own. Even more, she will be missed for the countless threads she daily wove in the fabric of family life and in the lives of all she touched. Freida is survived by her husband Orland; her children: Patricia (husband Michael) Henne of Plymouth, Minnesota, JoAnn (husband Butch) Kingren of Edina, Minnesota, Sharon (husband Daryl) Derby of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Douglas (wife Donna) of Elk River, Minnesota, Wayne (wife Kathy) of Boyd, Minnesota, Randel of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Daniel of Fargo, North Dakota; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Laurina Gregg, Mabel Andres, Leo Schultz, Leonard Schultz, all of Marshall, Minnesota, and Violet Zelenak of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Freida was preceded in death by her parents, Leopold and Minnie Schultz; and one son, Eugene in 1946.
