Fred Oftedahl, the son of Christian and Annie (Carlson) Oftedahl, was born at Pemberton, Minnesota, on October 5, 1885. He was baptized at the Medo Lutheran Church of Pemberton by Rev. Mellby. A few years later, the family moved to Cottonwood where he was confirmed at the Silo Lutheran Church by Rev. Martin Romstad in 1899. On March 26, 1905, he was united in marriage to Ingeborg Albin by Rev. Ole Lokensgaard at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church of Hanley Falls. To this union were born two sons and a daughter, Kermin, Kenneth and Irene. Mr. Oftedahl farmed west of Hanley Falls and was also engaged in carpentry. Upon his retirement, he took up residence in the village of Hanley Falls. He resided there until the time of his passing on July 3, 1968, at his home, at the age of 82 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, his son, Kermin and by his daughter, Irene. He is survived by his son, Kenneth Oftedahl of Cottonwood; brother, Carl of Cottonwood; a brother, Alfred of Stevensville, Montana, who passed away the day before Fred's funeral; two sisters: Mrs. Dorothy Simonson of Granite Falls and Mrs. Theresa Johnson of Minneapolis and two grandchildren.
