Obituary

Mr. Fred Eckhardt, the son of Frederick Eckhardt and Amelia (Stube) Eckhardt was born on November 15, 1874, at Ontaria, New York. During his early childhood, the family moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota, and later to Boyd, Minnesota, where he spent most of his life except for a few years when he lived at Bancroft, Iowa and Mora and Nassau, Minnesota. He was united in marriage on April 1, 1897, to Minnie Fenske at Zion Lutheran Church, Tyro Township, by Rev. August Hillger. The Lord blessed this union with eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. His wife preceded him in death on August 25, 1955. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church all during the years of his residence in this community. The surviving children are three sons: Alfred and Oscar of Boyd, Minnesota, and Wilfred of Storden, Minnesota; four daughters: Mrs. Paul N. Peterson of Boyd, Minnesota, Mrs. Gerald E. Johnson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Richard Drew and Mrs. Louella Morris, both of LaHabra, California. Two brothers survive, namely Charles of Arlington, California, and Otto of Blue Earth, Minnesota; four sisters: Mrs. Tillie Selten of Huntington Park, California, Mrs. Gusta Chase of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Clara Wiegers of Boyd, Minnesota, and Mrs. Carl Ferber of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; and one step-sister, Mrs. Alvina Timm of Boyd, Minnesota. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Eckhardt departed from this earthly life peacefully at this home in Boyd on Friday, January 10, 1958, at the age of 83 years, one month and 26 days.
