IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances Josephine
(Holtan) Hanson
February 16, 1902 – January 13, 1908
Frances Josephine Hanson was born February 16, 1902, to Ole H. and Anna (Eid) Holtan of Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was the fifth in the family of seven. The youngest brother, Arthur Oliver preceded her in death on January 13, 1908. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bergen Lutheran Church which the family attended and where Frances was a member until her marriage when she joined the church now known as Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Rev. J.J. Salhus officiated at both her baptizmal and confirmation rites. She attended normal school and taught in rural Yellow Medicine County for several years. She then decided to go into nursing and received her R.N. degree at the University of Minnesota. She was working for a doctor in Montevideo, Minnesota, at the time of her marriage to Kenneth Hanson of Clarkfield on November 11, 1933. To this union one daughter was born, namely, Ann, now Mrs. Duane Sherwin. Frances served this community in her profession at the local hospital for many years and also was hospital superintendent here. Her health had been failing the past year. She submitted to surgery in Minneapolis just before Thanksgiving and from there went to the home of her daughter where she passed away in her sleep. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughter, Ann; son-in-law Dr. Duane Sherwin; three grandsons: Jeffrey, Erik and Per; one brother, Helmer Holtan of Montevideo; sisters: Mrs. Alma Olson, Mabel (Mrs. Selmer Anderson), and Mildred (Mrs. Alvin Anderson) all of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Esther (Mrs. Earl Tack) of Marshall, Minnesota.
