Frances Bernice Bengtson was born on February 23, 1921, in Milan, Minnesota, to parents Ingvar J. and Elizabeth (Bessie Joyce) Bakke. She was baptized on March 21, 1921, at the Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, Minnesota. Frances was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 14, 1935, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Montevideo, Minnesota, by the Rev. John M. Mason. Frances attended school in District #85, West Bank Township and Montevideo, completing the eighth grade. Upon the death of her mother in 1925 Frances was cared for by her Grandma Joyce and Aunts Katie Wanke and Emma Hillerud until the Hans Skogen family took her in. She made her home with them until the time of her marriage. On June 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Roland R. Bengtson at the parsonage of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, Minnesota. Together they were able to share 54 years of marriage. They made their home in Montevideo until 1981 when they moved to their farm home west of Boyd, Minnesota. In 1991, Frances became a resident at the Clarkfield Care Center where she lived until the time of her death. Frances was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd, American Legion Auxiliary of Boyd and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Appleton. She was a devoted wife and looked forward to Roland's almost daily visits to her in the Care Center until the time of his death. She enjoyed embroidery work and flower and vegetable gardening. Frances enjoyed her dog and cats. She also enjoyed time spent visiting with her sister Evelyn and neighbors. Frances died on Sunday morning, August 19, 2001, at the Clarkfield Care Center. She had reached the age of 80 years, 5 months and 27 days. She is survived by her sister Evelyn Bakke of Holloway, Minnesota; Bengston nieces and nephews and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roland. Blessed be the memory of Frances Bernice Bengtson.
