Forest Jerome Johnson was born April 25, 1905, to Edward and Mary (Hanson) Johnson, in the same home in which he and his wife still resided. He was baptized May 14, 1905, and confirmed June 20, 1920, at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He joined the Augustana Lutheran Church on October 6, 1940. He was united in marriage to Albertha Anderson on May 27, 1934. This union was blessed with one daughter, Sonya. Mr. Johnson was engaged in the gas business, trucking and for two years operated his farm in Tyro Township. Ill health caused him to quit farming and in 1953, he and his wife opened The Johnson Apparel Shop on the corner where the present bank is now located on main square. This they operated for many years. As mentioned in his obituary at the services, his talents were many and he earned the love and respect of his many friends and relatives through his loyalty. Throughout his suffering, he showed extreme strength, good cheer and concern for those he loved. He departed this life Wednesday evening, January 3, 1903, at the local hospital. He had been taken there by ambulance the previous night. He reached the age of 67 years. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Albertha; daughter, Sonya; son-in-law, Howard Hubbard; two grandsons, Steven and Eric Hubbard; two brothers: Basil Johnson of Clarkfield and Torphin Johnson of Minneapolis; and one sister, Myrtle (Mrs. B.F. Baldwin) of Hernando, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, infant Forest and Maurice Johnson.
