FLORENCE I. BENSON was born on the family farm near Clarkfield, Minnesota, on June 26, 1925, to parents Sven (Axel) and Hilda (Miller) Peterson. She was baptized at the Augustana Lutheran Church of Clarkfield and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Minneota High School. Florence married Fred T. Benson on September 9, 1943, at the parsonage in Cottonwood, Minnesota. They were the parents of three children: Bennie, Robert, and Betty Ann. Florence was a member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid and serving groups of the church. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed sewing many of her own and Betty Ann's clothing. She also enjoyed embroidery work and correcting spelling words. Florence especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Florence lived on the farm until she became a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, Minnesota, in March of 2005. She passed away at Luther Haven on Sunday, October 23, 2005, at the age of 80 years and 4 months. She is survived by her children: Bennie Benson, Robert Benson, and Betty Ann (Tim) Christensen all of Montevideo and her grandchildren: Christopher Benson of Mounds View, Minnesota, and Andrea, Mitchell, and Elissa Christensen of Montevideo. Also surviving are her sisters Mildred Hawkinson of Clarkfield and Stella Weinhold of Cottonwood and sister-in-law Gladys Benson of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, and grandson Peter Benson.
