Evelyn S. (Stueland) Kruger (February 21, 1917 ~ March 24, 2011) Evelyn Sylvia Stueland was born February 21, 1917, in Boyd, Minnesota, to parents Hans and Minnie (Mickelson) Stueland. She was confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. She attended cosmetology school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for one year and earned her cosmetology diploma. Evelyn Stueland and Harlan Kruger were united in marriage on December 16, 1945, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Stony Run Township. To this union, six children were born: Shirley, Wayne, Dennis, Philip, Jeanette and Leisha. Evelyn and Harlan moved to a farm near Boyd, Minnesota. In February 1953, they bought a farm near Hanley Falls where they farmed and raised their six children. In May 1979, they retired from farming and moved to Willmar, Minnesota. Her most important role was raising their six children. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and baker. She loved to sing, play the piano, and the organ. Evelyn enjoyed reading, playing cards and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed the get-togethers at the farm and at their Diamond Lake cabin. Evelyn also enjoyed spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was active in the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and the Hanley Falls American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, Minnesota, and Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. Evelyn passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 3 days. She is survived by her children: Shirley Flaten of Willmar, Minnesota, Wayne (Chris) Kruger of Litchfield, Illinois, Dennis (Dianne) Kruger of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Philip Kruger (fiance Sandy Draeger) of Chaska, Minnesota, Jeanette Kruger of Willmar, Minnesota, and Leisha Kruger of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Harlan; her parents, Hans and Minnie Stueland; her brothers: Arthur, Clifford, Harold, Reuben, Richard, Earl, Edwin; sister Ruby; and her son-in-law Raymond Flaten.
