November 8, 1909 – February 23, 1999
Evelyn Cheste Brock was born in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on November 8, 1909, to Andrew and Annie (Droen) Smolley. She was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Norwegian Lutheran Church. She graduated from Clarkfield High School as valedictorian of her class in 1928. After high school, she was employed as a housekeeper for many different families in the Clarkfield area. She was also employed at Grinager's Mercantile. During her employment at the Mercantile, Evelyn met Robert Brock and they were married on February 11, 1940, at the Clarkfield Norwegian Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born: Anita Jane, Roger James, and Charles Alvin. Evelyn was an active member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, her life on the farm, and her family. She passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 23, 1999, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 16 days. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Anita (and Arryn) Roder of Sycamore, Ilinois; sons, Roger (and Marcia) Brock and Charles (and Mary) Brock of Clarkfield; and grandchildren: Mark (and Penny) Roder of Rock Falls, Illinois, Pam (and Richard) Carlson of Mesa, Arizona, Vicki (and Peter) Strand of Dawson, Minnesota, Christin (and Scott) Palmer of Worthington, Minnesota, Darin (and fiance Stephanie Cadwell) Brock and Nathan Brock of Clarkfield. She is also survived by six great grandchildren: Richie and Siena Carlson, Danielle and Alyssa Strand, and Dalton and Dylan Palmer, one brother, Donald Smolley of Montevideo and sisters, Lillian Palmgren of Madison, Minnesota, and Norma Jacobson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
