Evelyn Bendicta Sorenson was born August 25, 1914, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents John and Olga (Granholt) Aakvik. She was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and graduated from Clarkfield High School. Evelyn married Olaf Sorenson at Bergen Lutheran Church on January 20, 1938. They farmed near Clarkfield before moving to Roslyn, South Dakota, where they owned and operated a cafe for many years. They returned to Clarkfield where Evelyn worked at Appleseth Produce for 15 years and then opened her own Produce and Dairy Store. In 1971 she started working in food service at the Clarkfield Hospital, working there until its closing in 1986. Evelyn became a resident at the Clarkfield Care Center in July of 1992. She passed away at the Care Center on Thursday, December 25, 2003, at the age of 89 years and 4 months. She is survived by her two sons: Dennis (and Marilyn) Sorenson of Lady Lake, Florida, and Larry (and Judy) Sorenson of Brainerd, Minnesota. She is also survived by six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Aakvik of Clarkfield; one sister, Myrtle Booker of Keokuk, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Doris Aakvik of Montevideo, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Judith Hanson; brothers Carl, Arthur and Bennie; and one infant sister.
