IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evalyn Odella
(Dotseth) Isaacs
April 12, 1905 – April 25, 2007
Evalyn Isaacs, 102 years and 13 days old, died peacefully on April 25, 2007, at Valhalla Apartments in Clarkfield, Minnesota. During her last days, she was surrounded by her loving family, beautiful music, and the devoted care of the Valhalla Assisted Living staff and Rice Hospice. Evalyn Odella Dotseth was born April 12, 1905, to Oscar and Susana (Oraas) Dotseth in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church and was a member of the Clarkfield High School graduating class of 1923 and the first teachers training class in Clarkfield. After six years of teaching in country schools, she married Murl Isaacs on December 25, 1929. To this union seven children were born. The couple raised their children on the farm, retired to Hazel Run, Minnesota, and then to Valhalla Apartments. Murl died in 1997. She was also predeceased by her son, Peter Lowell, son-in-law Arvid Melbostad, grandchildren: Margaret Isaacs, Aaron Fischer and Michaela Isaacs. Also preceding in death were her brothers: Raymond, Nuel, Owen and Oscar Dotseth Jr., and sisters: Irma Lamkin and Esther Barrett. Evalyn is survived by her children: Elwood (and Linda) Isaacs of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Elaine (and Gaylen) Cornelius of Clarkfield, Peter Lowell's widow Carol Davy of Sun City West, Arizona, Joanne Melbostad of Clarkfield, Sharon (and Robert) Fischer of Anoka, Minnesota, Dean (and Nona) Isaacs of Oregon City, Oregon, and Dale (and Addie) Isaacs of Woodinville, Washington. She also will be sorely missed by her 18 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and her two surviving sisters: Carol Taylor and Wanda Remmen. Blessed with an exceptional memory, Evalyn was an authority on local history and was able to identify most of the people in old pictures brought to her. She kept wonderful scrapbooks, a treasure trove of history. She was a prolific letter writer and sent yearly birthday cards to every one of her descendants. She was an expert crocheter, seamstress, made quilts for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and made perfect lefse. Until very recently she remained active in her WELCA circle at Hazel Run Lutheran Church and actively participated in the services held at Valhalla. Her 100th birthday party was attended by about 70 of her immediate family members and at least 200 other friends and family. And she was probably the only one there who knew every single person attending! Blessed be her memory.
