Eunice Mildred Shefveland Swenson, second daughter of Oscar and Malina (Tieg) Shefveland, was born on May 25, 1913, at Lakefield, Minnesota. She was baptized by Pastor O.M.O. Wee. She moved with her parents to the Clarkfield community in 1919 where she resided the rest of her life. Eunice was confirmed by Pastor O.M.O. Wee in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church in 1927. She attended the Clarkfield public school and granduated from high school in 1930. During the school year 1931-32 she was a student at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. Following this she taught parochial school in the Minneota, Minnesota community for several years. On December 31, 1944, she was united in marriage to Alvin O. Swenson by Pastor J.E.H. Akre and T.C. Knutson. The couple resided on the Swenson farm northeast of Clarkfield until Mrs. Swenson's death. About seven years ago her health began to fail and from time to time was a hospital patient. On September 29, 1955, she was taken to the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where she was when the end of her earthly sojourn came. She had desired of the Lord to be permitted quietly to fall asleeep unto eternal rest and her desire was granted. She departed to be with her Savior October 8, 1955, at the age of 42 years, four months and 13 days. Her husband and her parents and brothers were all present. Surviving her are her husband, Alvin; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Shefveland of Richfield, Minnesota; three brothers: Orrin of Minneapolis, Stanley of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, Merle of Anoka, Minnesota; also nine nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby. Eunice was always an active church worker who loved to serve her Savior. Her love, her patience, and her sweet smile was, and now is, a real challenge to us, the living.
