Eugene Arnold Winkler was born June 16, 1903, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Carl and Agnes (Penney) Winkler. At the age of four, he moved with his parents to Watertown, South Dakota, where he grew to manhood. On April 23, 1930, he was united in marriage to Burma Meyer of Echo, Minnesota, and they lived in Watertown for 25 years. They moved to Bellingham, Washington, in 1955. In 1975, they moved to Springfield, Oregon, to be near their family. They moved to Cottonwood, Minnesota, in 1979 They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in June this year. Eugene was the last surviving charter member of the Evangelical Church of Watertown, South Dakota. Before retiring he worked in construction and was a cabinet maker. He passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota, on November 14, 1980 and was 77 years of age. Eugene is survived by his wife and one daughter, Jan Davis of Eugene, Oregon; six grandchildren; one nephew, Ora Winkler; and grandnephew, Steven Winkler of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
