Eugene Raymond Shepard was born May 5, 1911, in South St. Paul, Minnesota. He passed away May 29, 1967, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 56 years. His parents were Joseph and Millie (Nather) Shepard. He was baptized by Rev. Amos I. Dushau and confirmed by Rev. Walter Finch. On November 8, 1930, he married Mabel Hauge of Clarkfield who was his constant companion in the teaching profession and farming. He was graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul and received his Bachelor Degree in Music at McPhail College. He began his teaching career at Winnebago, Minnesota, and later taught at Scobey and Harlem, Montana. After returning to Minnesota he taught in nearby towns in order to be of assistance on the Hauge farm which was greatly appreciated by the Hauge family as it made living on the home place possible. He was a member of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge of Baudette, Zurah Temple of Minneapolis. He was interested in Scouting and was a scoutmaster in various towns where he taught. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary and Josephine; three brothers, Arthur, Walter and Albert. He is survived by his wife, Mabel; three sisters: Mrs. Otto Kramer and Mrs. Charles Killinger of South St. Paul, Minnesota, and Mrs. Agnes Heidenreich of Birmingham, Alabama; nieces and nephews. Masonic rites were conducted by the Mizpah Lodge No. 191 of South St. Paul during visitation on Wednesday evening, May 31, 1967. Eugene's kind ways and capability to help others will always be remembered by the Hauge family. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ To my Husband, Sweetheart I shall miss you for you were very kind.
