Ethel Arlene Willander was born May 25, 1925, in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Oscar and Amelia (Anderson) Willander. She was baptized July 1, 1925 and confirmed at the First English Lutheran Church on June 2, 1940. Ethel graduated from Clarkfield High School on June 4, 1943. Following her graduation she worked at Boeing Air Craft Defense Plant in Everett, Washington. Due to her small stature, she worked as a rivet bucker inside the wing tips. Ethel returned to Minnesota and was employed at the Swift Plant in Montevideo, Minnesota. Ethel Willander married Eugene Beck on December 30, 1948 at Milbank, South Dakota. To this union one son, Jody, was born. Ethel and Eugene farmed in Lisbon Township until Eugene's death on December 30, 1973. Ethel resided in Hacker Heights and recently with son Jody in rural Montevideo. Ethel passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 1993 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 68, following a lengthy illness. Ethel is survived by her son Jody and grandchildren: Jennifer, Jonathon, Jeanna, Joni, Jessica, and Jasmin and their mother Janis. Also surviving is one sister: Alicia (and Wayne) Peterson and five brothers: Edger, twin brother Eldon (wife Ramona), Wendell (wife June), William (wife Pat) and Irvin (wife Brenda) Willander. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene; two brothers and one sister. Blessed be her memory.
