Ethel Arlene Westergard Westre was born May 15, 1924 in Chester, South Dakota to her parents Chris and Mary Zeitting Westergard. She was baptized as a child and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester, South Dakota on June 7, 1937. Ethel attended school in Chester and graduated from high school in 1942. At this time she began nurses training at Bartron Hospital in Watertown, SD., graduating in 1945 as an RN. Lloyd Westre and she were married on January 11, 1948. Three sons were born: Lane, Chris, and Dean. Ethel married Herman Eischens in 1976. She was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Ethel went back to school, graduating from the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia in February of 1958. She worked for hospitals in Clarkfield, Montevideo, Granite Falls, Olivia, and others. Ethel was a wise caregiver to many families. A highly respected nurse by her piers wherever she worked, she will be greatly missed. Ethel passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on Sunday evening, January 21, 1996 at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 6 days. She is survived by her sons: Lane (wife Janet) of Willmar; Chris (wife Betty) of Rogers; and Dean of Dawson; four grandchildren, and sister Lyle Husby of Madison. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Kenny Vogt. Preceding her in death were her husband Lloyd in 1968, Herman in 1982, her parents, sister Laura Vogt, and brother Dick.
