Ethel Martha (Ruud) Anderson was born December 7, 1903, in Nome, ND to parents Erik and Anna (Bing) Ruud. The family moved to Canby, MN where Ethel attended public school. After graduation, she entered Nurses Training at the Montevideo Hospital for a 2 year course. From there, she attended the University Hospital in Minneapolis for one more year. During that time, she received special training at different hospitals in Pediatrics and Contagious Diseases. (The nurses from Montevideo had a choice of going to Glen Lake Sanitarium for Tuberculosis Training or the General Hospital for 'T.B. and Contagious Diseases'.) That was during the outbreak of "Black Small Pox" so the training was very beneficial. Ethel graduated on December 29, 1924 and became a Registered Nurse. She continued nursing for many years. Ethel and Ole A. Anderson, of Hanley Falls, were married on October 31. 1936. They resided in Hanley Falls for 50 plus years. Ethel passed away on Monday, November 30th, 1998 at the United Retirement Center at Brookings, SD at the age of 94 years, 11 months, and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ole in 1995; two sisters: Norma and Irene and three brothers: Bennie, Elden, and Anton. She leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
