Ethel Elnora (West) Leenerts was born on May 6, 1903, at Gilead, Nebraska, to parents Henry and Mary (Rader) West. As a young child she was baptized and later confirmed, both in Nebraska. Ethel married George S. Leenerts on February 1, 1922. This marriage was blessed with four children: Dale, Betty, Robert, and Kenneth. George and Ethel moved from Nebraska on March 1, 1941, to their farm west of Clarkfield, Minnesota. They remained there the rest of their working years and farmed the land. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was also a member of the LWML. Ethel entered the Clarkfield Care Center on August 1, 1993, where she passed away early Sunday morning, June 11, 2000, at the age of 97 years, 1 month, and 5 days. She is survived by her children: Dale (and Ethel) Leenerts of Montevideo, Minnesota, Betty Ostenson of Montevideo, Minnesota, Robert Leenerts of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Kenneth (and Gerry) Leenerts of Clarkfield. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Parks of Hastings, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews; and a large host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; grandsons: Joseph Leenerts, Robby Leenerts, and Larry Ostenson; great grandson Gerrod Leenerts; and nine brothers and sisters. Blessed be her memory.
