Obituary

Esther Maria Peterson was born September 4, 1900, the fifth child of Peter and Emma Peterson, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was baptized by the midwife, Mrs. Lundstrom, when she was three days old as they feared for her life. Her mother's cousin, Belinda Olson, was a childless widow and asked to have eleven year old Esther live with her in town. For this reason she was confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church and attended the Clarkfield School. As a young lady she worked as a clerk at the Lilljestrale General Store and later as assistant to Dr. Turner, a local dentist. On July 14, 1920, she and John Lynner were married at a garden wedding in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Peterson (Mrs. Peterson and Belinda Olson were sisters). On a hot July Sunday in 1970 they celebrated their Golden Wedding and in July of 1984 they celebrated their 64th anniversary prior to Johns death on September 24, 1984. Esther was always available for help in the furniture store and mortuary. She accompanied John many times to rural homes, as embalming was frequently done in the home. They both enjoyed singing in the "Liberty Chorus" years ago. She taught Sunday School, enjoyed A.L.C.W. and quilting for L.W.R., and she belonged to the Garden Club and the Hospital Auxiliary. Her loving concern and care for her parents and her mother and father-in-law and husband, John, are to be remembered. She baked countless loaves of bread for her bachelor brothers after her mothers death, and taught them how to make gravy. She was hospitable, caring and loving to all who knew her. Homemade buns and casseroles were delivered to many families in their times of sorrow. She loved spring and the joy all her flowers brought. She graciously shared them all. Her roses were a special joy always. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; granddaughter Kristi Diane Lynner; son-in-law, Gordon D. Peterson; her parents, Peter and Emma; brothers Axel, Oscar, Alfred, and Winfred, and sisters Amalie and Edith. She is survived by her two children, Myra Peterson and Jack Lynner and daughter-in-law Lois; grandchildren, John Lynner Peterson and his wife Linda, Mary Lee Peterson, Gordon David Peterson and his wife Kristine, Thomas Daniel Peterson, Paul Michael Peterson and his wife Patricia, Naomi Esther Peterson, Lori Anne Lynner and John Howard Lynner; her brothers, Ludvig and his wife Idella, Fredolph and his wife Verle; her sisters, Bettie Thompson, Anna Hanson, Emma Thompson, Hulda Halvorson, Ethel Corbett and sisters-in-law, Jennie Peterson and lona Peterson, plus many nieces and nephews. Esther will always be lovingly remembered by the lives she touched.
