Esther Gunnelie (Vold) Jacobson was born in Friendship Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on February 2, 1909, to parents Pete and Hilda (Johnson) Vold. She was baptized on March 7, 1909, in Hazel Run, Minnesota, and confirmed June 3, 1923, at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. After finishing the eighth grade at District #28, she attended Morris Ag School, Morris, Minnesota, where she graduated in March of 1930. She worked for different families in the area before she married. Esther married Milfred Jacobson on April 30, 1933, in Hazel Run. They were the parents of a son Duane. She taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She loved making quilts (making as many as 100 tops in one year), playing cards, bingo and gardening. She loved her family and babysitting the grandchildren. She passed away on Friday, January 9, 2009, at the Granite Manor, Granite Falls, Minnesota, at the age of 99 years and 11 months. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Arlyss (Willis) Johnson of Granite Falls; Grandsons: Michael (Maria) Jacobson of Bonney Lake, Washington, and Bradley (Barbara) Jacobson of Hazel Run, Minnesota; Great Granddaughters: Michelle (Lance) Craig, and Miranda Jacobson; and Great Grandsons: Brett and Barry Jacobson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milfred (1997); son Duane (1990); brothers: John and Leonard Vold; and sisters: Theresa Dyrdahl and Helma Hanson. Blessed be her memory.
