Esther Ovidia Benson was born in Stony Run Township, rural Granite Falls, Minnesota, on April 22, 1907, to Thomas O. and Bertina (Eide) Benson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bergen Lutheran Church. She attended Country School District #4 and later took nurses training at Pokegema, Minnesota. She was employed at the Glen Lake, Minnesota Sanitarium, the Riverside Sanitarium at Granite Falls, Minnesota, and the Good Samaritan Hospital at Phoenix, Arizona. On October 11, 1952, Esther married Albert Dahlgren of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, at Bergen Lutheran Church. They moved to Phoenix where she lived until 1984 when she returned to Minnesota to reside with her family. She was a member of the Chatter-Clatter Homemakers Club of Boyd, Montevideo Sons of Norway, Bergen Lutheran Church Women, and Boyd Senior Citizens. Esther, age 84, of Montevideo, Minnesota, passed away on April 6, 1992, at the Clarkfield Care Center. She is survived by six sisters, Corella Rasmussen of Silverdale, Washington, Thelma (Mrs. Stewart Berg) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Ruth (Mrs. John Laemmle) of Robinsdale, Minnesota, Minnie Johnson of Montevideo, Minnesota, Ellen (Mrs. Marvin Weigt) of Mankato, Minnesota, and Linda (Mrs. Hilman Korstad) of Boyd, Minnesota. She is also survived by three brothers, Eldor (wife Margaret) of Bakersfield, California, Thoralf (wife Myrtle) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Oliver of Montevideo, Minnesota. Also surviving is sister-in-law Blanche Benson of Boyd, Minnesota, and numerous nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband Albert; Harold, a brother who died in infancy; and brother-in-law, Eugene Johnson.
