Obituary

Ervin LeRoy Gelhar (August 9, 1929 ~ November 27, 2011) Ervin LeRoy Gelhar was born August 9, 1929, on a farm near Glenwood, Minnesota, to parents Gustav and Hazel (Foner) Gehlhar. His family included two sisters and a brother: Ethyle Fiala, Bernard, and Beverly Pfaffe. Ervin was united in marriage to Joyce Beltz on August 18, 1950. This union was blessed with four children: Diane, Janet, Glenn and Carol. They were later blessed with seven grandchildren: Monica, Valerie, Zachary, Zane, Brennan, Erik and Clint; and five great grandchildren: Jennifer, David, Evan, Vivian and Matthew. Ervin attended Glenwood school. After completing Railroad Academy in Minneapolis he worked in Waukegan, Illinois, where children Diane and Janet were born. Ervin graduated from Los Angeles Technical College with a degree in Electronics. In 1965 the family moved to Oregon, where they lived until 1972 when they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. Erv had a gift for making things mechanical and electrical. He enjoyed working on projects and created many items that the family treasures. He was a skilled outdoorsman and loved his time in the woods, on the water and on his cross-country skis. Ervin LeRoy Gelhar passed away at his home on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 17 days. He is survived by his wife; children: Diane (Russell) Rawls, Janet Dinsmore, Glenn, and Carol Fenske; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bernard; sister Beverly; and sons-in-law: Clint Chase and Tom Smith. Ervin is remembered fondly and will be greatly missed.
