Ernestine J. Sommerfeld was born December 25th, 1880, in Germany, the daughter of Carl and Wilhelmine (Goetsch) Zahn. Ernestine, along with her parents and sisters, Bertha, Augusta and Amanda, left their home in Zimmerhausen on April 16, 1884, onboard the ship Rhaetia. The family lived in Cologne, Carver County, Minnesota, later moving to Walter Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. On May 2, 1902, she married Wilhelm Sommerfeld. This union was blessed with six children. Mr. and Mrs. Sommerfeld lived in Camp Release Township until the spring of 1911 when they moved to Marietta. In 1915 they moved to Arena Township and lived there until 1918. From there they moved back to Camp Release Township for a year. In the spring of 1920 they moved to a farm eight miles southwest of Boyd. In 1941 they retired and moved to the Village of Boyd. Mrs. Sommerfeld died April 23, 1947, at the Dawson Hospital, Dawson, Minnesota, at the age of 66 years, three months and 28 days. Survivors include her husband, Wilhlem and their six children: Christoph, Henry, Ervin, Arthur, George and Myrtle (Mrs. Milburn Rogge).
