Ernest Leroy Isaacs, the son of Peter and Anna (Stevens) Isaacs, was born in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, February 9, 1897. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. J.E.H. Akre. On June 4, 1918, he enlisted in the engineering corps of the regular army of World War I and became a member of the seven men from the Hazel Run area who called themselves the "Lucky Seven." On July 12, 1919, he was united in marriage to Neptuna Myhre. One son, Erode, was born to this union. On August 9, 1923, Neptuna was killed in an automobile accident. On December 12, 1936, he was united in marriage to Lurene Hawkinson of Boyd, Minnesota. Two sons were born to this union. In his early life, Ernest was engaged in farming. Later, he moved to Clarkfield where he was engaged in trucking and worked for the county highway department. In 1953, the family moved to Minneapolis where he was employed by the State Highway Department until his retirement. He suffered a heart attack on March 11, 1970, and was taken to General Hospital where he passed away on March 25, 1970, at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Lurene; sons: Earl and David of Minneapolis, and Erode of Dayton, Ohio; his daughter-in-law, Solveig (Akre); two grandsons: Tom and Greg of Dayton, Ohio; three brothers: Alvin of Clarkfield, Murl of Hazel Run, Minnesota, and Reed of Los Angeles; five sisters: Inez (Mrs. Jim Tongen) and Gladys (Mrs. Raymond Dotseth) both of Clarkfield, Cyantha (Mrs. August Tongen) of Montevideo, Minnesota, Myrtle (Mrs. Hewlitt Smith) of Arizona and Genevieve (Mrs. Robert LeCount) of Jamaica; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
