Erma G. (Olson) Anderson was born July 28, 1921 in Springfield Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to parents Ole A. and Sadie (Sampson) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Amo Lutheran Church of rural Storden, MN. Her early years in education were at the 'Red, White, and Blue' Country School and she later graduated from Heron Lake High School. She earned her teaching degree at Mankato State College in 1941. Erma's teaching career spanned 21 years. She taught in rural schools in Murray County and then in Morton, Worthington, and Montevideo School systems. Erma married Melvin Anderson on February 4, 1961 at Storden, MN. They farmed in the Cottonwood, MN area until retiring in 1986. She was active in her church being involved in WELCA, the church choir, and teaching Sunday School. Erma loved to paint and travel. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Her family was important to her. She gave encouragement and support to her large family of nieces and nephews. Erma passed away on Saturday morning, February 27, 1999 at the Clarkfield Care Center, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 77 years, and 7 months. She is survived by her husband, Melvin of Cottonwood, a sister Martha Hallum of Windom, MN and a brother Irvin Olson of Storden and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Amos and Marion Olson. Blessed be her memory.
