IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Erling Stanley
Haaland
November 6, 1921 – December 7, 2011
Erling Haaland (November 6, 1921 ~ December 7, 2011) Erling Stanley Haaland was born on November 6, 1921, the son of Elmer and Sarah (Lund) Haaland. He was baptized and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church, and graduated from Clarkfield Public High School. Erling then began farming with his father on the family farm. On December 30, 1942, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Emily Hartfiel at Zion Lutheran Church in Tyro Township. This marriage was blessed with three children: Earl, Daniel and Julie. Erling and Dorothy resided and farmed near Clarkfield until 1979 when they moved to their lake home on Berens Point, Lake Minnewaska, Starbuck, Minnesota. Erling was a meticulous farmer and an avid fisherman. He was very creative and enjoyed woodworking and gardening, his favorites being his tomatoes and his huge strawberry patch. He was an active member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church where he was a member of the church council and was proud of having a leadership role in the building project of the current church structure. He was also active as a member of Fron Lutheran in Starbuck. When he retired and moved to the lake house, Erling became the Berens Point handyman; his neighbors and children and grandchildren believed that he could fix most anything. Ice fishing was his favorite with many fishing stories and tasty walleye meals. His little dog Chipper was a faithful companion in the boat and in the fishhouse. Erling became a resident of Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck in the fall of 2005. He passed away on December 7, 2011, at the age of 90. Services will be held at Clarkfield Lutheran Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Clarkfield cemetery. He is survived by his children: Earl (Huguette) Haaland of Cape Coral, Florida, Daniel (Carol) Haaland of Gary, South Dakota, and Julie (David) Drommerhausen of Albert Lea, Minnesota. Also surviving are grandchildren: Heidi (Desmond) Dodd, Douglas (Stephanie) Haaland, Angie (Brian) Irvine, Darrin (Jody Jensen) Haaland, Emily (Jaret Sievers) Drommerhausen, and Eric Drommerhausen; great grandchildren: Maeve and Colm Dodd, Camden and Kieran Haaland, Tiana, Jennifer, and Maci Irvine and Morgan Haaland. Sister, Comfort Quesnell, brother-in-law, Leonard Kramer; and many nieces and nephews also survive him. Erling was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents, Elmer and Sarah Haaland; sister, Mavis Kramer; infant brother, Erling Luther Haaland; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Haaland.
