Erland Thyren was born on April 29, 1890, at Salaby Vestergotland, Sweden, the son of John and Hedda Janson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Salaby. In 1910, he came to the United States and became a naturalized citizen and served his country during World War I. Thereafter, he made his home with John Naren, a cousin. He homesteaded in Montana in partnership with his brother, Axel. On January 24, 1922, he was united in marriage to Alice Nelson of Casper, Wyoming, after which the family moved to a farm northeast of Boyd, Minnesota. After retirement, the family made their home in Boyd where he passed away on Sunday, April 8, 1962, at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Thyren, three step-children: Marjorie (Mrs. George Crouch) of Glenwood, Minnesota, Ralph of Riverside, California and Gordon of Daly City, California; and five grandchildren; one brother and three sisters at Salaby, Vestergotland, Sweden. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Axel Thyren.
