Era Lown McCoy was born February 11, 1898, to Fred and Corda (Nickolson) Lown in Effingham County, Illinois. She was baptized in the Zion Methodist Church at Ellitstown, Illinois, and married Orph Mccoy on June 25, 1919, at Paris, Illinois. After their marriage, they farmed in Illinois and in Iowa before coming to their present farm in 1941. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McCoy: Leland, Marie, Kenneth, Lucille, Dale, Duane, Delbert, Coleen and Judy. Era was active in her church throughout her life, having served for many years as a Sunday School teacher. She was also active in the W.C.T.U., in the Lisbon Garden Club, and in the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. McCoy passed away November 4, 1975, at the Clarkfield Community Memorial Hospital following a period of several years of declining health. She is survived by her husband, Orph; four sons: Leland, Dale and his wife Shirley, Duane and his wife Dorothy, all of Clarkfield, and Delbert and his wife Carol of Storm Lake, Iowa; four daughters: Marie Cushman of Watson, Minnesota, Lucille and her husband Frank Rose of Oakland, Iowa, Coleen and her husband Roger Olson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, and Judy and her husband Andrew Van Dorpe of West Fargo, North Dakota; 28 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Flaharty of Spencer, Iowa; half sisters: Ada, Ruby and Esther; and half brothers: Ted, Basil, Paul, Don and Lee Poynter. Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, a granddaughter, a daughter-in-law and a son-in- law. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
