Emma Nelson Severson was born December 12, 1881, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Gertrude (Larson) Nelson. She was confirmed in the Swede Home Lutheran Church by Pastor B.F. Bengtson on December 15, 1895. On February 8, 1905, she was united in marriage to Andrew A. Severson by Pastor Shaleen and since then been a member of the St. Lucas Lutheran Church. To this union one son, Raymond, was born. The family lived on a farm in this community until September 1945, when they retired and moved to Clarkfield. She passed quietly away Sunday morning, March 6, 1966, at the Clarkfield Hospital, at the age of 84 years. She had been an invalid for the last five years and was a resident of the Clarkfield Nursing Home until April 19, 1964, when she became a patient at the Clarkfield Hospital and was since cared for there. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew, two brothers and four sisters. Surviving are her son, Raymond and his wife; three grandchildren: Arlen, David and Ihleen; and one great granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Julia Severson of the Madison Lutheran Home; and a number of nieces and nephews.
