Emma Olson was born in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on May 3, 1874, the daughter of Bengt Olson and Pernilla (Swenson) Olson. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed by Rev. Bengtson at the Fridhem Church, where she also served as organist for a number of years. In spite of her crippled handicap, Emma did sewing for a great many families in the area for over sixty years. She was a longtime member of the Women's Missionary society and an honorary member of the ALCW. Miss Olson passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Friday evening, October 7, 1960, after a hospitalization of three days. She spent her enire life on the home farm in Tyro Township, where her sister Elizabeth faithfully cared for her with the exception of the past two months when she was in the care of another sister, Mrs. Annie Rodness. She reached the age of 86 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Christina; three brothers: Olaf, Henry and Ernest. She is survived by four sisters: Elizabeth Olson, at home, Mrs. Annie Rodness and Mrs. Rika Roedl, both of Clarkfield, and Selma (Mrs. Robert Devereaux) of Wadena, Minnesota; and a number of nieces and nephews.
