Mrs. Emma Olson was born in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on October 9, 1878, to Ole and Ingebor (Oiegarden) Berkvam. Her parents were both natives of Norway immigrating to Wisconsin, where they met and were married. They settled on a farm in Stony Run Township in 1873 where Emma was born and raised with her brothers and sisters. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Church and attended public school in District 14. On May 20, 1905, she was married to George Olson of Clarkfield. She lived happily with her businessman husband till his sudden passing in 1931. She continued a useful life in Clarkfield, first in her own home, then for a number of years she made her home at the J.H. Lynner, Sr. residence as housekeeper. Following this, she lived in an apartment at the John Sturgeon, Sr. home before making her residence at the Clarkfield Nursing Home where she passed away Sunday, February 5, 1967. She reached the age of 88 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Anne (Mrs. Chester Poland) of Minneapolis, and Inger (Mrs. Carl Brekke) of Clarkfield; six brothers: Jens of Clarkfield, Olander, Peter and Edward, all of Hazel Run, and two who died in infancy. She is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Ethel Olson of Starbuck, Minnesota, and Mrs. Maye Wilson of Hazel Run, Minnesota; six nephews: Orten and Melvin Berkvam of Hazel Run, Ardine Berkvam of Clarkfield, Lloyd Berkvam of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Ruthard Poland of Minneapolis and Oscar Brekke of Albie, South Dakota. She was a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by relatives and friends. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
