Mrs. Emma Nelson was born in Marble Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota, on April 17, 1889, to parents, Christopher and Ingeborg (Dahl) Sather. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Porter Lutheran Church by Rev. Kleven. She grew to womanhood in the Porter community and taught school until she was united in marriage to Oscar N. Nelson on February 1, 1911. To this union four children were born: Iona (Mrs. Lyle Barkelew) of Granite Falls, Lorren, who preceded her in death in May, 1966, Nefton of Clarkfield, and Elaine (Mrs. John Allen) of El Segundo, California. The family made its home on a farm in Swede Prairie Township where she was a member of the Swede Home Church, being an active member until joining the Augustana Lutheran Church of Clarkfield. She served as Sunday School teacher and was an active LCW member in these congregations. She was a person of a most cheerful and kind disposition. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; her son, Lorren; one granddaughter; her parents; and one sister. She leaves to mourn her passing her three children; two daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Andrew Sather of Hughenden, Alberta, Canada, and Mrs. Julia Christianson of Canby, Minnesota; also nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
