Funeral Services for Mrs. Emma M. Martin were held at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon, November 14, 1978, with the Rev. Berdell Digerness officiating. Mrs. Duane Jacobson was organist and accompanied Loren Norgaard as he sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Casket Bearers were all grandsons: Lyle Martin, Howard Martin, Ronald Hveem, Dennis Kittelson, Arlen Martin and Douglas Martin. Burial was at the Hazel Run Cemetery with the Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield, Minnesota, in charge. Emma Nelson Martin was born January 23, 1889, and passed away November 10, 1978, at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 18 days. Her parents were Nils Johannes and Vende Margarete (Christensen) Nelson of Duncombe, Iowa. On July 4, 1906, she was united in marriage to Albert Martin of Duncombe, Iowa. They resided on a farm near Duncombe for a few years, then moved to a farm near Porter, Minnesota, before moving to their farm between Clarkfield and Hazel Run. There they lived until 1955 when they retired from farming and moved to the home they built in Clarkfield. To this union nine children were born, namely: Lloyd of Green Isle, Minnesota, Orville who passed away in infancy, Pauline (Mrs. Olaf Froland) of Starbuck, Minnesota, Wilfred of Hazel Run, Allard of Ring Gold, Georgia, Myron of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, Marvin of Van Couver, Washington, Ordell of Bird Island, Minnesota, and Phyllis (Mrs. Orville Hveem) of Peidmont, South Dakota. Emma was a longtime member of the Hazel Run Congregation ALCW and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, her parents, one sister, one brother, one infant son, two grandsons, one great grandson and one son-in-law. She is survived by her six sons and two daughters, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, two sisters, one brother-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.
