Emma Kroese was born on December 21, 1900, at 0'Brian County, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Jennie (Oldenkamp) Mulenburg. She attended school in the Sanborn, Iowa area. Emma and her husband, John, lived and farmed in the Cottonwood, Minnesota area for many years. They were also the janitors for the First Presbyterian Church of Cottonwood where they were members and where Emma was active with the Ladies Aid group. Emma passed away at the Weiner Memorial Hospital in Marshall, Minnesota, on Tuesday evening, November 27, 1990, at the age of 89 years. Emma is survived by her son, Peter and his wife, Edna of Marshall; eight great grandchildren; fifteen great great grandchildren; one brother, Martin Mulenburg of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and four sisters, Mary Kroese of Sanborn, Iowa, Hester Kroese of Sheldon, Iowa, Grace Formo of Granite Falls, and Elizabeth Snyder of St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Preceding Emma in Death were her parents; her husband, John, in 1984; one Grandson; three sisters, Gertrude Kroese, Jennie Reed, and Katherin De Young; and two brothers, Herman and John.
