Emma Josephine (Iverson) [Ness] Johnson was born on December 17, 1899, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Andrew and Mathia (Haugen) Iverson. She was baptized and comfirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Emma graduated from Clarkfield High School and then attended Madison Normal School at Madison, Minnesota. She was a teacher for many years. Emma married Ralph Ness and they were the parents of two sons: Ardine and Kermit. In latter years, she married Stewart Johnson. Emma resided on her farm in Stony Run Township for 75 years, where, at one time, she raised many chickens. She liked to read and write. She was very active in the Bergen Lutheran Church, being a member, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and Bible Study Leader. Emma was a very unique person. Emma passed away at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at the age of 98 years, six months, and six days. She was preceded in death by her husbands Ralph Ness in 1951 and Stewart Johnson in 1978, and her sons Ardine Ness in 1972 and Kermit Ness in 1991. She was also preceded in death by brothers Martin, Carl, George, Rudolph, E. Oscar and Albin and sisters Alice and Mabel. She is survived by her grandson, Christopher Ness of Marshall, Minnesota, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Blessed be the loving memory of Emma Ness Johnson.
