Emma Hognestad was born on July 8, 1872, in Malmo, Sweden, the daughter of Ole and Anna Olson. She was baptized and confirmed in Sweden and attended school in Stockholm. At the age of 19, she immigrated to America with the Louis Tell family. She was employed in Clarkfield and Granite Falls and worked at farm homes in the area. Mrs. Hognestad lived on her farm near Hazel Run, Minnesota, the past 66 years, ever since her marriage to Henry B. Hognestad on December 13, 1895. The family includes Selmer and Minnie, who are on the home place, Hilda (Mrs. August Holm) of Hector, Minnesota, Gina Thompson of Granite Falls, Agnes (Mrs. William Leverenz) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Alice (Mrs. Albert Schlaak) of Granite Falls. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mr. Hognestad passed away in 1947. Mrs. Hognestad passed away October 29, 1961, at her Hazel Run Township farm home, at the age of 89 years. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
