Obituary

Mrs. Emma Halvorson (nee Emma Sophie Anderson) was born in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on December 10, 1884, of the parents Mons and Ingeborg (Rexstad) Anderson. She passed away June 23, 1959, at the age of 74 years, six months and 13 days. She was baptized January 1, 1885, by Rev. R.K. Fjeldstad and confirmed by Rev. O.C. Farseth at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Her childhood days were spent in Lisbon Township where she attended country school. On December 1, 1905, she was united in marriage to Severt Droen and to this union four children were born, two of whom survive, namely Alvin and Maurice. A son and daughter died in infancy. Mr. Droen passed away in 1910 after a lingering illness. November 8, 1919, she was married to Nels Halvorson and to this union two children were born, namely, Thelma (Mrs. Anton Sabe) of Clarkfield and Erling of Virginia, Minnesota. They lived at Revillo, South Dakota, for a few years where Mr. Halvorson operated a flour mill, and later moved to the former Jacob Ralston farm. They then moved to Clarkfield where Mr. Halvorson operated the local feed mill for several years. Mr. Halvorson passed away in 1955 and she has since resided at their home here. Mrs. Halvorson was very active in church work since her early youth. She was a member of the choir for several years, was a charter member of the Willing Workers, and at the time of her death was an honorary member of the Clarkfield Ladies Aid. She also served as a faithful Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker and also operated a restaurant in Clarkfield and was employed as a cook at the local hospital for some time. Wherever she worked she was well liked by everyone. She enjoyed helping others. She gave in great measure of her time and talents and always with a cheerful smile. In spite of all her sorrows and hardships, she faced life with a smile knowing that God would give her strength with which to carry on. During her latter years her health began to fail, but she was still active until a week previous to her death, when she was taken to the Clarkfield Community Hospital on Friday morning, June 19th, and shortly after went into a coma from which she never rallied and passed away on June 23, 1959. She leaves to mourn her departure: Maurice Droen of Hopkins, Minnesota, Alvin Droen of Crookston, Minnesota, Thelma (Mrs. Anton Sabe) of Clarkfield, Erling Halvorson of Virginia, Minnesota; two step-sons, Hilmar and Gerhard Halvorson of Alexandria, Minnesota; one step- daughter, Pearl (Mrs. Merold Nelson) of Hopkins, Minnesota; 20 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Cora (Mrs. Alvin Isaacs) of Clarkfield. Be Thou Faithful Unto Death and I Will Give Thee a Crown of Life. Blessed be her memory. IN MEMORY OF MRS. EMMA S.
