Obituary

Emil P. Mikelson, one of nine children of Peter and Tilda (Johnson) Mikelson, was born on a farm near Hazel Run, Minnesota, on May 31, 1887. He was baptized July 17, 1887, at Yellow Medicine Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, Minnesota, by Rev. Knut Thorstenson, and was confirmed by Rev. M.A. Sottendahl at Hazel Run Lutheran Church in 1901. On July 3, 1916, he was united in marriage to Annette Christine Wilson by Rev. M. Halvorson at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. To this union seven children wer born: Lucille, Muriel, Evelyn, Dorothy, Harris, Ruth and Richard. For over 40 years Emil served as manager of the Eagle Roller Mills elevator in Clarkfield until his retirement in 1953. Emil enjoyed music and showed his love for it by being a member for many years of the Hauge male chorus and the Lutheran Church choir. Emil had been in ill health the past year and had been living with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Friberg, until he entered the Clarkfield Community Hospital on June 20, 1964. He passed away there on June 21, 1964, at the age of 77 years. He is survived by his five daughters: Lucille (Mrs. Lloyd Nelson) of Montevideo, Muriel (Mrs. Myron Friberg) of Clarkfield, Evelyn (Mrs. Chester Dalager) of Minneota, Dorothy (Mrs. John Dyste) of Forman, North Dakota, and Ruth (Mrs. Harry Ziemann) of Hudson, Wisconsin; two sons: Harris and Richard of Minneapolis; 23 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Arneson of Clarkfield; four brothers: Martin of Spokane, Washington, Bennie of Hazel Run, Charlie of Long Beach, California, and Arnold of Minneapolis. Preceding him in death were his wife, who passed away one year ago June 23; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mikelson; two brothers, Selmer and Arthur; and one sister, Irene. IN MEMORY OF EMIL P.
