Emelia Anderson Willander was born February 19, 1894, in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Gustaf and Anna (Tvedt) Anderson. She was baptized April 15, 1894, by Rev. B.F. Bengston and confirmed May 10, 1908, by Rev. K.J. Kronberg at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was a member of Fridhem Church until it united with Augustana Lutheran, where she continued her membership. She was married to Oscar Willander on June 14, 1921, by Rev. B.F. Bengston and was a lifelong resident of Tyro Township. Ten children were born to this union. Mrs. Willander passed away at home in her sleep on November 10, 1970, at the age of 76 years. She had great love and devotion for her family and home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; a son, Howard; a son-in-law, George Rosen; her parents; and two brothers: Henry and Hjalmer. She is survived by nine children: Delmer of Boyd, Minnesota, Edgar of Clarkfield, Eldon of Boyd, Minnesota, Ethel (Mrs. Eugene Beck) of Montevideo, Minnesota, Alicia (Mrs. Wayne Peterson) of Canby, Minnesota, Wendell of Boyd, Minnesota, Norma (Mrs. Edwin Hiepler) of Boyd, Minnesota, William and Irvin of Clarkfield; and 16 grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers: Arthur of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Emil of Washington, D.C., Melvin of Clarkfield and Theodore of Willmar, Minnesota; two sisters: Ellen (Mrs. Edwin Abrahamson) of Washington, D.C., and Thilda (Mrs. Wilbur Nelson) of Cottonwood, Minnesota.
