Elva Hoiland was born on July 11, 1907 in Yellow Medicine County to parents Peter and Lorena (Briggs) Hanson. She married Clarence Hoiland on June 23, 1928. She worked for a while at the Clarkfield Care Center, but her main love was to cook and bake for her family. Elva and Clarence were very active in their church, the Clarkfield Assembly of God Church, until they became residents of the Clarkfield Care Center in July of 1992. Elva passed away on Sunday morning, February 21, 1999 at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 11 days. She is survived by her four children: Marilyn (Doug) Zumwalt of Santa Anna, CA; Bud Hoiland of Richfield, MN; Shirley (John) Mau of Prior Lake, MN; and Carol (Gerry)Daniel Klein of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Elva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence in 1992, her daughter-in-law Linda Hoiland, and siblings: Olaf, Clarence, Ancel, Walter, Roger, Mary, Ella and Mabel.
