IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elsie Marjorie
(Tollefson) Hauge
November 30, 2016
Elsie Marjorie Hauge's long battle with cancer ended with her sudden death on November 30, 1989. She was born in Madelia, Minnesota, to Pastor Christian M. Tollefson and Hannah Hetland Tollefson on June 22, 1912. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith by her father. She lost her mother at the age of one year and a half. Her father later remarried. The family moved to Montevideo, Minnesota, in her senior year and she graduated from the Montevideo High School in 1930. She attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She spent many years working in the Hanford, Washington area during the war and returned to Minneapolis to help care for her ailing stepmother. On August 15, 1948, she was united in marriage to Waldemar S. Hauge at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis by Dr. Emil Swenson. To this union, two children were born, Laurel and Paul. In 1968, she was diagnosed as having cancer. For twenty-one years, she suffered cobalt radiation, several terms of chemotherapy and continuous treatment by medication, sustained by a strong sense of faith in her Lord. She was very active in Clarkfield Lutheran Church affairs, teaching Sunday School for twenty-five years, singing in the Ladles' Church Chorus and the Church Choir and working in the E.L.C.W. Her health gradually failed, and she was hospitalized for pneumonia in January of this year and later moved to the Clarkfield Care Center. She became suddenly ill on the morning of November 30 and was rushed to the Granite Falls Hospital by ambulance, where she expired in the early afternoon. She had lived long enough to see her two grandchildren, James and Jenna, and thanked the Lord for each extra day of life. She passed the boundary of time and entered her eternal life on November 30. She loved her home, her family and her church. Elsie is survived by her husband, Waldemar Hauge; two children, Laurel and Paul; son-in-law, Brandon Goehl; two grandchildren; four sisters, Charlotte Myhre and husband Walter of Costa Mesa, California, Mrs. Audrey Hinds of Port Angeles, Washington, Mrs. Jean Roney, Columbia, Maryland, Helen Thompson and husband, Robert of Edina, Minnesota; twin brothers, Pastor Richard Tollefson and wife Eda, of Fox Island, Washington and Robert Tollefson and wife Dorothy of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Blessed be her memory. Funeral Service: Monday, December 4, 1989, 11:00 a.m. Clarkfield Lutheran Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota Officiating: Pastor Gordon A.
