Elsie Helen (Neitzel) Lachelt was born on May 4, 1910, near Valparaiso, Nebraska, to parents Frank and Augusta (Radetzke) Neitzel. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith the same year at the Lane School House in Valparaiso, as it was used as a church. Elsie moved with her family to Campbell, Minnesota, in 1920. She was confirmed at the Campbell Lutheran Church on April 5, 1925, by Rev. Louis Rosin. Elsie and her family remained in Campbell until she was 18 years of age, at which time she moved to Boyd, Minnesota. Elsie married John Lachelt at Clear Lake, South Dakota, on April 1, 1931. John and Elsie lived on their farm in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, until 1963, when they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. John and Elsie had 59 years together. She was a housewife and a volunteer worker at the Clarkfield Care Center for 13 years. She belonged to the LWML of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary of Boyd for 68 years. She also was a member of the Clarkfield Care Center Auxiliary since 1964. Elsie passed away on Monday morning, December 25, 2000, at the Swift County Benson Hospital, Benson, Minnesota, while spending Christmas with her family. She was 90 years, 7 months, and 20 days old. She leaves to mourn her passing, her three children: Harold (and Kathleen) Lachelt of Brainerd, Minnesota, Janice (and Carroll) Pagel of Benson, Minnesota, and Marvin (and Allene) Lachelt of Litchfield, Minnesota. She also is survived by nine grandchildren, one step granddaughter, 16 great grandchildren and one step great grandson. Elsie was the youngest and the last of the Neitzel family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters and three brothers, and her husband, John. Blessed be her memory.
