Elna Elenora (Weckwerth) Leppke (December 16, 1919 ~ December 4, 2010) Elna Elenora Weckwerth Leppke was born on December 16, 1919, to John and Theresa (Schulke) Weckwerth at their home in Sparta Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota. She had three older siblings, Ervin, Alfred and Paul. She was baptized at home on December 28, 1919, and confirmed April 9, 1933, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Sparta Township. Elna attended Mandt Country School from grades one through three and then Rosewood Township School from grades four through eight. Elna married Arnold Herman Leppke on October 13, 1940, at the parsonage of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sparta Township. They lived with Arnold's parents on the farm until March of 1941 when they moved to their own home. She loved canning, baking and raising vegetable and flower gardens. She loved entertaining their families for Thanksgiving. Arnold and Elna moved to Montevideo in 1985 after they retired from farming in the fall of 1984. She remained in her home until July 2002 at which time she became a resident of Luther Haven. Elna passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Luther Haven at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 18 days. She is survived by her grandchildren: Janet (John) Nutter of Linwood, Minnesota, Martha (and Troy) Muhl of Minneota, Minnesota, and David (Angela) Leppke of Canby, Minnesota; and her daughter-in-law Ruth (Leppke) Gubrud. She is also survived by her six great grandchildren: Dallas Muhl, Kristian Leppke, Garret Muhl, Sierra Nutter, Kaylee Leppke and Kortney Leppke; brothers- in-law Victor and Ed Leppke; and sister-in-law Lydia Koepp. She was preceded in death by her son Lyle in 1969; son Donald in 1992; husband Arnold in 2002; and her three brothers.
